Member Plus Newsletter, February 27th, 2024

Dear Clinic Members,

We’re reaching out today with an update on clinic staffing, in addition to a few other items. The most important news to share is that Erica has accepted a position at Virginia Mason here on Bainbridge Island. Erica’s last day in the office will be March 21st, and we’ll send her off with huge thanks for being part of our office family here for the last two years. We have deeply appreciated her thoughtful insights and her genuine care for our patients.

While we are recruiting a new provider to join us, Dr. Crandell will be a solo practitioner. We are committed to maintaining our high level of service for patients, and as always, we will reserve appointment slots every day for urgent needs and make all possible accommodations to see our patients in a timely manner. Please email Laurie Isenman with questions on this transition.

On a practical note, we wanted to make members aware that like many businesses in the region, the MPFH offices experienced a burst pipe during our recent deep freeze, resulting in significant flooding in the annex office. Consequently, we have been seeing all of our patients in the main office while repairs are being made. This has necessitated changes to our usual scheduling, in addition to more “waiting room time” for patients as we juggle the available exam rooms. We anticipate that the repair work will be complete within the next couple of weeks.

On a different subject, we need to let you know that we are instituting a couple of financial changes with Member Plus Family Health: we will be charging a penalty fee for appointment no-shows, and we will be raising our membership fees.

Because of our increasing business expenses — around 30% over the last five years — we have made the difficult decision to raise our membership fees later this year. We will provide more specific information regarding the numbers in the coming weeks. We want to reiterate that our philosophy has always been one of people over profit, and we hope that our members understand that the increased fees are needed to keep the practice stable. We believe that MPFH’s personalized approach to prioritizing patients’ wellbeing is vital to providing proper care for complex issues, as well as focusing on proactive wellness. We are so grateful for the opportunity to care for our patients in this way.

Warmly, Dr. Crandell, Erica, and staff
