New Symptoms
If you need a new symptom to be evaluated, keep a symptom diary ahead of your visit. This should include:
• What does the symptom feel like?
• When does it occur?
• How long does it last?
• What makes it worse?
• What makes it better?
Your appointment
Ideally, every patient will be seen on time. However, if your doctor is running late, he is either giving another patient a little extra time or doing the many extra tasks required for documentation. See if you can interpret this waiting time as “found time” to do something you don’t normally have time for. Member Plus Family Health’s waiting room offers free wifi, so you can bring a laptop along. During the appointment, make sure to keep these questions in mind:
• Are you communicating your most important issues?
• Are your questions being answered?
• Do you know what you are supposed to do now? (What meds to take, what tests to do, what specialists to see, etc.)
Afterward, you’ll want to stick to the plan that you and your doctor agreed upon. If there are reasons that you can’t (maybe the medication doesn’t agree with you, or you’ve changed your mind about doing a test) it’s important to let the staff at Member Plus Family Health know.
